Staying positive

Hi,

On Tuesday I was told I most likely have a form of blood cancer and I’m absolutely terrified.

I’ve spent the week going to different scans and had a biopsy. I’m exhausted but trying to put on a brave face.

I’m 28, newly engaged, dreaming of starting a family and planning my wedding. I also suffered a miscarriage last month so feel like I can’t catch a break.

I’m trying to stay positive as I’ve been told blood cancer is very treatable but the ‘what-ifs’ are starting to really affect me.

Does anybody have any advice on staying positive while waiting for results?

  • Hi Rss1998,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

It sounds like you've been dealing with a lot recently and I'm sure this must all be a lot to process. I hope it's not long to wait for you to get the information you need about any potential next steps.

It can of course be hard to stay positive and not to worry. And it's OK to feel a whole range of emotions during such a difficult time.

Try to avoid Googling too much - this can often lead to more worries. Keep a note of any questions or concerns you have, to raise with your doctor when you get the opportunity.

Focus on taking things a day at a time and finding moments to do things you enjoy, no matter how small or simple these may be.

And of course keep talking to others where possible and helpful - for example friends and family, or via other outlets such as this forum.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post here soon.

We also have nurses available if you'd like to talk things through at all. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
