Recent diagnosis

I'm still coming to terms with my diagnosis of breast cancer a couple of months ago and the confirmation last week that I will be needing chemo following my recent lumpectomy. If anybody has any advice to give me before the chemo starts, I'd love to hear from you xx

  • Hi GillyW sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I had a lumpectomy and then chemo and then radiotherapy.  I would say the best bit of advice I was given was to try and keep to your normal routine as much as you can.  I did not work when I had treatment but did stick to things that I normally do.  I walked the dogs maybe sometimes a shorter walk but still did it.  I went out for meals and pub.  Keeping to your routine make you feel a bit more in control of things that you can do.  The Macmillan website has a breast cancer forum and I am sure you will find someone on there starting chemo same time as you.

  • Thank you so much Lee. It's very reassuring to hear from others who are having - or have had - the same treatment. I'll certainly keep looking at the Macmillan website. I hope you have made a good recovery - your dogs will be happy too! xx
