Very recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal cancer

I was supposed to start my 1st 3 lots of chemotherapy last Monday at my local hospital here in Bedfordshire, but because my GP surgery pharmacist took me off the Metformin that I had had great results on before (2 tablets 2X a day) it has apparently messed up my diabetes readings so when I was due to start my 1st chemo I was told I could not start the treatment because my sugar levels were now far to high what with the steroids I had just started taking. You would have thought the hospital staff would have come across with this problem before now but no it seems not. Well I am now due to start again this Monday and let's hope all my levels this time are in range because I don't think I can cope with all the stress like last week all over again. Surely the medical specialists would realise just how stressed up I was last week, if it all goes badly again this Monday I will be pulling my hair out and not simply waiting for it to fall out.

Anybody out there having similar 1st day chemotherapy problems. Wish me luck !!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi Flipper1961,

I'm so sorry to hear you had these difficulties last week - I can certainly imagine that being stressful as you would have prepared for it and I'm sure the confusion with the hospital staff didn't help.

I wanted to wish you all the best for today and I hope it all goes as planned.

Do let us know how you get on - and in the meantime hopefully you'll get some more replies from others on the forum.

We're always here when you need it.

    Best wishes,

  • Evening

You can have many hurdles with Chemo

Just ask questions and listen and do what your  supposed to do

I did bloods on a Friday

Steroids Sunday Monday and Chemo then steroids Tuesday

I like you thought everybody knows what to do but this is not the case

    No picc line fitted

    Chemo not ready

    No steroids No bloods

Things happen but you have to stay strong focused and carry on

The NHS is a massive business an amazing institution

You will not get any better treatment and support anywhere else in the world

    Hop all goes well
