Hello Chris1312 and a warm welcome to our forum,
I hope that you are recovering well from your lung cancer surgery 5 weeks on from your operation. You might be interested in reading our information on possible problems after lung cancer surgery and I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have experienced similar issues to the ones you describe.
I think it would be a good idea to mention this dry cough and the pain in your sternum to your medical team - don't hesitate to share all the details with them, for example the fact that certain smells like air fresheners seem to trigger this dry cough. It's always useful to discuss any post surgery symptoms with your specialist and I hope that they will be able to shed some light on this and also that these issues will all improve soon for you.
Feel free also to get in touch with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to talk things through with you.
Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery,

Thank you for your support I will mention it to the team at my hospital on my follow up visit.
I've had ablation on both lungs and find aerosol sprays make me cough. I've changed to roll-on deodorant and solid blocks of air freshener which has definitely helped. I also find cough sweets helpful. I think lung issues can be ongoing but as Moderator Lucie has said, best to check with the team treating you.
I wish you well.
Helen
