Granulomatous Mastitis - does anyone else have this condition? Currently waiting for an appointment with Rheumatology to help with pain management

Hi,

just wondering if anyone currently has this condition?  How you getting on with it? I’m lost with trying to understand why I have to explain to every different GP I see what it actually is? I feel like I’m getting nowhere with it I was diagnosed last year May after core biopsy, just told I would need antibiotics in any future flare up, I didn’t know what he meant by flare up as it was a lump and itchy no other symptoms at the time. Little did I know what was coming, August last year the flare up happened and is still currently happening weekly abscesses bursting through along with the stinging, burning, throbbing, swelling, redness and  intense itching which you can’t itch as it’s so painful to touch.  I am now waiting on an appointment with Rheumatology to assist with management of pain as the breast clinic have already given me 13 lots of different antibiotics within a 6 month period and still not stopping the abscesses.

  • Hello More76 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you've been having with this condition. It sounds very challenging and having to explain what it is every time you speak to a different GP must be very frustrating.

I've had a look through the forum and came across a member I replied to 7 months ago who posted about being diagnosed with Granulomatous Mastitis as well. Their name is Netty88 and you can find out more about them on their discussion Granulomatous inflammation/mastitis.

I hope you're able to make a connection with Netty88 soon, but whilst you wait you're very welcome to talk to one of cancer nurses about what you're going through. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m, and with their knowledge and insight they will do all that they can to help.

We're sending you all our support More76 and will have our fingers crossed the rheumatology department are able to help you with your pain.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
