Paclitaxel - 12 week course has been recommended to me this after I got the all clear from Angiosarcoma. Has anyone had this type of chemo? Feeling apprehensive

Hi I was diagnosed with Angiosarcoma and had my breast removed in November. Thankfully I got the all clear 3 weeks ago. My sarcoma doctor has recommended 12 weeks of chemo, Paclitaxel starting in the New Year. I’m very apprehensive but have agreed to have it just to be sure everything is gone. Anyone had any experiences with this type of chemo would be appreciated x

  • Hi Fergie70,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat! It's great news that you got the all clear 3 weeks ago following your angiosarcoma diagnosis. Best of luck with your chemotherapy treatment which is starting soon. I hope that it all goes well for you. You will find information on our website on paclitaxel which I hope you will find useful. It is normal to be a bit apprehensive about starting chemotherapy treatment but I think you did the right thing in agreeing to have it if that is what the sarcoma doctor recommended to you - it might be a belt and braces situation to make sure everything is gone.

I thought I would also mention this paclitaxel thread by  which you are welcome to respond to if you wish - this member posted in August and was at the time about to have their first round of paclitaxel.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had paclitaxel before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

Wishing you a merry Christmas and best wishes,

  • Hi Fergie

I had EC chemotherapy followed by 12 weeks of Paclitaxel which I finished on the 5th November. I can understand your apprehension as it can be overwhelming trying to take in all the information especially possible side effects. I personally only had heartburn now and then and haemorrhoid due to constipation which I reported to cancer team and was gave meds. I also purchased  suzzi pads which I wore during treatment as a preventive against possible peripheral neuropathy. I didn't get this. Not sure if it was because I wore suzzi pads or i might not have had side effect anyway as we are all different and you may get through it all without having anything. I did ask and had a picc line inserted in my arm and paclitaxel was given through this. This was good as it saved the discomfort of having needles in your hand or arm every week.

I had a left mastectomy after this on the 4th December and my surgeon informed me 90% of the tumour was cancer free and the 10% gone with the mastectomy. I did have 4 lymph nodes removed 3 tested positive for cancer and Iwill have all lymph nodes in left armpit removed on 8th January. Then radiotherapy.  Surgeon has recommended 2 years of CDK 4/6 inhibitors and10 years hormone therapy. I am cancer free but I will continue to receive preventive treatment to remain well and cancer free.

Im sure it is as Lucie says you are being offered 12 weeks paclitaxel as a preventive. Sometimes I feel as if its never ending but you will get through this. Trust your Doctor and the process and ask as many questions as you like as the more informed you are may put your mind at rest.

Wishing you merry Christmas and a healthy New Year Fergie.
