New to all this and scared: I have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer

I have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer that has gone to adrenal gland, three ribs and lower vertebrae.  All of this was originally diagnosed as OA and being treated as such. A few weeks ago I went to an urgent treatment Centre because of a searing pain in my side. They took x Ray and that’s how it all went wrong. Have had CAT scan and Bronchosopy and waiting for my meeting with team who will decide my fate. I have researched a lot and I need this to be NSC as opposed to SCC. I want the best chance of life I can get but am so afraid the prognosis won’t be good. This is really hell isn’t it? Would like to me people that are in my position, I need support as I feel like I’m losing my mind! I have no symptoms even the pain in ribs has gone but it did show a 55mm mass . Thanks for listening and I hope to strike up some conversations .

  • Hello Chritina

Firstly sorry I’m pretty rubbish at writing but I’ll give it ago to reassure you it’ll be ok

in February I was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer also had it in a few glands around the lungs as well. Same as you the waiting for treatment and answers was really tough but I just tried to focus on my family and keeping busy. I started chemo over 12 weeks. I’m not gonna lie it makes you feel *** but it does get easier. After treatment was finished I had surgery to remove upper lobe of my left lung. My recovery was a bit slow (3 weeks in hospital) but I can’t honestly say I’ve been out for 3 months and I’m back at work and playing really bad golf again. I’m having immune therapy which isn’t a problem no bad reactions to it.  Who knows what the future holds but after all that I’m doing and feeling great and I really hope you will. Keep your chin up you’ll get through it

    wishing you all the best
