Wow how did I end up here?

I have 52 years experience of being a 21 year old.      (73 for those that are not good at maths),   live in Buckinghamshire, and have a wife and two bookies to support.

Keen sports fan of most types,  used to play a lot of Rugby, squash, Cross Country running and athletics  On the down side,  have been an Evertonian since the 60's.  Enjoyed the glory days of the 1970's and have suffered ever since

And as you have probably guessed , have a warped sense of humor.  I can see the funny side of nearly every situation. including what I have been through in the last 3 years.

If appropriate, I will add more shirtly.   Let me see how the forum works first.   Look forward to chats, discussion and banter with anuy one interested  and hopefully we can make the world a better place between us

  • Welcome to the forum David.

One in rwo of the population will get cancer in their lifetime so thats a lot of people who could end up here. Your good sense of humour will get you through. Amongst close friends I have a dark sense of humour about my situation, but moderate it in public. An amputee friend often makes dark jokes around the benefits of having just one leg. It helps him maintain good mental health, breaks the ice when meeting new people and cheers people up, focussing their attention on him rather than his disability. Cancer has its dark moments and if I couldnt laugh about it I'd probably cry.

  • Thanks for your comments Farmer Ed.    Coincidentally, a friend of mine who passed away about a year ago when I went in for my operation (bowel cancer)   also had one keg due to a motor bike accident.     He managed to buy a personalised number plate for his car .    ( HA51 LEG)

Humour is the way I deal with this sort of thing,  sorry.   But at the age of 73 , I seem to be losing a lot of friends of late.    I went on a 3 year  trail  of medical history to get here to day,   including a 10 hours surgery , that was expected to take 5,  and the surgeon told my wife to expect the worse as I was not expected to pull through.   It's a long story , but includes a ITA, Eye Operation,  Period of being unable to breathe very well and a severe bleeding from the rectum. My cancer was only found by chance.  When some one passed a camera up my Jacksee and found the horrible blac thing  I will complete my Introduction later and let you know the details    But hey ,  Not only did I survive the operation (Just)  but I was also given the all clear on Thursday,

So I  battle on to the next episode.

    All the best
