Possible colon cancer

Hi all

please bear with me as I try and get this all out.
I have been experiencing some bowel issues for over 9/10 months. Struggling to go to the toilet at all, as if I was unable to open my bowels independently. I went to my GP numerous times as I would end up severely constipated. They would give me numerous types of laxatives and eventually put me on 3 different types on repeat prescriptions for this.
9 weeks ago I was so poorly with the constipation and pain, I was burping faecal smelling gas, was very dehydrated and ended up in A&E.
There they took bloods, took my history, and did do a rectal exam but only to check for muscle tone. I was asked to come back to hospital the next day to have a CT scan and see a surgical Dr. This was done, the CT scan was not or could not go low enough, but the surgical doctor did another rectal exam and felt around this time, and he felt a mass. He then told me he would be referring me to have a colonoscopy urgently. We heard nothing and had to contact PALS as I was at home suffering. I had a sigmoidoscopy and they found an acute mass but couldn’t do a biopsy due to risk of bleeding. Yesterday I had a CT colonoscopy. Last night I had a call with an appointment to see a general surgeon in 2 weeks and a call today to make an appointment with my dr on Monday to talk about the results. This is some kind of two week pathway. I am now terrified they have found cancer. I am 41 and have 4 children. I feel I have lost months and this could have been growing away in me. X

  • Hello LittleMummy12

I'm so sorry to hear about all that you've been through over the last months and that now you find yourself in this period of waiting and uncertainty about what the future holds. Undoubtedly, this is a difficult time and it's natural that you might be feeling overwhelmed by a rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions.

Hopefully your appointment with your own doctor on Monday will give you some answers, although you may find yourself leaving the appointment with more new questions. If at any point you'd like to talk with one of our team of nurses, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Do you have someone who can attend the appointment with you on Monday? Family member or friend? It can be helpful to have someone with you as a second pair of listening ears as it's easy to forget what's said at times.

Keep in touch LittleMummy12 and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
