New to group

Just joined here and had breast and total lymph nodes cleared on 7th October. Due to have chemo followed by radiotherapy but yet to be given full details of programme length etc.

I’ve planned a 10 day holiday to Spain in 2 weeks before I start chemo. Has anyone else done this? Am I crazy? Any advise (especially lymph node clearance).

oh, and I’m so scared of treatment!

  • Hi JayneMarie,  did you lumpectomy or mastectomy?  I had lumpectomy and nodes removed and cant say it caused me too much pain, I did the exercise every day.  A holiday in Spain sounds like a very good idea to me.  What does your oncologist think?  My husband and I went to Portugal for a week in September and I asked the oncologist and he said it would be okay.  I would say to check on your travel insurance.  I got a good deal with insurancewith who were a lot cheaper than any of the others and cancer cover specialists.  Hope you get to Spain and good luck with your chemo.

  • Hi,  thanks for your reply.

I had lateral wide incision/lumpectomy. Apart from accidentally removing my own drain due to overdoing mobility to try for best recovery I didn’t find the op too bad at all. Working hard to try to avoid side effects that I’ve read about. Lots of exercises given by physio this time and don’t find them hard at all.

Surgeon is happy for me to go and haven’t seen oncologist yet but nurse tells me the oncologist appointment for when I return should be fine.

insurance was the biggest challenge with me falling into too fit or too Ill on the Standard measure for travel insurance. Insurewith couldn't I sure me at all!

how did you manage/cope with arm protection from sun and heat which seems to be a concern with axilla clearance?

have you started chemo? I hear different stories of what it’s like.

    appreciate chatting with you.
