Someone to talk to - after 15 years, just found out I now have breast cancer in my other breast. 2 spots also found on my spine and ovary. Really freaking out

Hello, I had breast cancer 15 years ago and was fine until a month ago. I now have bc in the other breast and have my second op to check lymph nodes on Monday.

I have just had an MRI scan where it was found that I have 2 spots on my spine which may be aged related and an enlarged ovary. To investigate further I will be having a Pet scan and an ultrasound.

I 'm suffering with back pain on the enlarged ovary side but ai have no other symptons. Really freaking out and just needed to tell someone.  Thank you for listening. Take care everyone. x

  • Hi Katie  I am so sorry to hear this.  I had breast cancer 12 years ago with lumpectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and then tamoxifen/letrazole for 5 years.  I found out last year I had metastatic breast cancer with mets in my pelvis, spine, ribs, skull etc.  I have no sign of cancer in the breast though, it has spread through the blood.  Hopefully when you have your scan they will find it is not cancer but maybe like you say age related.  It is really hard the not knowing and the waiting.  I do get a lot of back pain and had radiotherapy to the spine to try and alleviate the pain.  I just wanted to wish you luck and I am here if you want to chat.  Big hugs.

  • Hi Lee,

thank you so much for your reply. It sure is such a scary time.

How did they find your mets?

I haven't got my scan until 16th Oct, but tomorrow I'm having another op to check my lymph nodes as at my first op they found 3mm of cancer in my other boob. And waiting for an ultrasound to check my ovary as well.

I really hope that you are keeping as well as possible. Thank you so much for replying. It means a lot.

  • Hi Christine,  I had hip and back pain last year and GP sent me for an X-ray.  I never heard anything back from the doctor.  I checked my NHS app and it said they found two sclerotic bone lesions in my pelvis which were most likely benign.  I never heard anything so I phoned the doctor and he said nothing to worry about and referred me to physiotherapy.  Had this and she referred me for MRI where they found extensive bone mets.  I really blame the doctor because it was March last year when I went with the pain and they only found out it was cancer in the September.  Anyway It is nothing I can change now.  I think the waiting is absolutely the worst time.  When are you having the op to check out your lymph nodes and the scan of your ovary?  It is times like this you wish you had private healthcare.  I waited ages but when the NHS wheels get in motion everything goes so fast.  I am living well with the cancer on palliative treatment.  We have just come back from a week in Portugal which was fab and left cancer at home for the week.  I really hope all goes well for you.  Here anytime you want to chat.

  • Hi Lee

Thank you so much for your reply. It must have been lovely to have a week in the sunshine, and to leave your worries at home. Gosh your gp was really ineffective. So bad. I wish I had private health care. Too late now. My op for checking the lymp nodes is tomorrow and no date yet for the ultrasound re ovary. I am well and truly back on  the roller coaster. I try and  be cheerful, sometimes it's hard. Do glad you are keeping well and I've heard many women live for years with mets, so that's a positive to hold onto. Again thank you  for your messages.
