Hi Humfrey and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,
I am so sorry to hear about your anal cancer diagnosis and that it is inoperable. You have come to the right place to find friends who can really understand what you are going through because they have been in a similar place themselves. Sometimes it can be hard to talk to those who are closest to us - there is as you rightly point out the fear of causing upset, the fear of other people's reactions. Here on Cancer Chat, you can be totally yourself and you can rest assured that everyone will be sympathetic and that many will have actually been in your position and had the same diagnosis. It can really help to talk to others who have been through the same.
I've done a little bit of digging for you to find other members who have recently posted on here to share their anal cancer story and I have found, for example, this recent anal cancer thread by Rangerover or have a look at Danieo 's advanced anal cancer thread and Bungle1 would be another great person for you to connect with as they have posted many helpful responses and have extensive experience of anal cancer treatment as you can see on this other recent anal cancer thread. Feel free to respond to any of these threads and conversations from other members affected by anal cancer that you feel you would like to engage with. These are just a few names and examples but there are many more and I will now let our members who have been affected by anal cancer come forward and share their stories and experiences with you. I hope that you will make many new friends on here so that you feel less alone after your diagnosis and can talk to others who are in the same boat
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
Hi Humfrey
Welcome to the forum although im sorry you have found yourself here. I am coming up 11 months post treatment for anal cancer. I note you say inoperable but have you been offered any treatment. As far as I know most anal cancer is only treated with surgery if caught really early or as a last resort type thing if the standard treatment fails. Be as honest as you want. Sending hugs. Xx
Hi
thanks for response, due to other health conditions I have been deemed not fit enough for surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy. So no treatment just painkillers.
Hi Humfrey
Im so sorry. You don't say what your other health issues are and you don't have to. Can you maybe get a second opinion. I don't know how much help this may be but on another forum I go on a lot of people have gone on the fodmap diet which seems to help with bowel habits if they have had issues but this has all been after treatment. Also if you come over to macmillan forum it is split into different cancer types, so if you join the anal cancer section and post there, everyone one is very supportive and its easier to speak with people in the same situation. I found it very helpful. More than happy to chat on here though if you prefer. Xx
Thanks, I didn’t realise that there were different parts, will certainly look into that. My other health conditions are not a secret, I have heart and respiratory failure.
thank you for chatting to me.
Ive friend requested you if you would rather chat privately, entirely up to you. X
No thanks needed. Happy to chat, cancer is a head f**k in my opinion. Its good to unload your thoughts. X
