Anal cancer

Good morning

I was diagnosed this year with anal cancer. I had chemo radiation for 28 days.
I have already survived Hodgkin’s disease twice. Breast cancer twice, and had moles removed some of which were cancer but fully excised.

I had an MRI three days ago and waiting to see my oncologist for the results. I admit to being terrified.
Has anyone has similar experience with anal cancer: how are you now?

  • Hi

I finished treatment for anal cancer 6th November 2024 and finally got the all clear 6 months later. You don't say how many months post your scan is but I was told its the 6 month scan which is the important one as the treatment is still working. I get the scan fear and the waiting for results. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Hello, thanks for your reply.  I’m so glad your doing well.

My scan was three months after treatment needed. And the cancer has recurred unfortunately.

Im not sure where I go from here.

  • Hi

From my experience if it was your first scan post treatment they won't do anything and will wait and see what your next scan shows as the treatment will still be working. My oncologist said if I wasn't clear at second scan he would do some more chemo before apr surgery. If you go on the macmillan forum its split into different cancers and the anal cancer section is very supportive and active, there are some people on there who weren't clear by the second scan and I know one of them is having more chemo and immunotherapy. I wasn't given the all clear at the 3 month scan they told me original had gone but had a new tumour then at the 6 month I was clear. Xx

  • Thank you so much, that is very reassuring.

I have an oncology appointment next week. I’ll learn more then. It’s quite terrifying.

  • Hope the appointment goes well, keep me posted if you feel up to it. X
