Well Hello ... I have testicular cancer

Im Nick, Im 52 and live alone - I hadn't felt right in a certain area for a year, lost 2  stone in several months, been fatigued alot, so went to my GP a year ago and basically she did nothing ..... No tests or anything, just did blood tests and urine which came back normal ....went back to the same doctor a couple of times and still not really done a thing....

Slowly been feeling worse over the past year, losing more weight, luckily I moved house 5 months ago so a new doctor's surgery and new doctor ...

Last Saturday...  Well I found a small lump on my right testicle Ernie and my left testicle has felt weird and solid for a while so I saw my new doctor 6 days ago.

..I explained my feelings above to my new doctor and he sent me straight to A&E to get checked as a medical emergency, he also warned me I may have to have an operation.......

I had tests on Monday and 5 doctors examine me, which I guessed wasn't a good sign.

I had an ultrasound scan last Wednesday  and was told straightaway that i definitely have testicular cancer in Burt my left testicle and they think my right is a cyst......so Ernie's ok for now !

I had a CT scan and pre op two days ago, although I haven't been told what stage the cancer is at .. I haven't even spoken to the doctor about the CT which I thought a bit odd....also I've not had any information or help from anybody yet.

I kind of knew / have known something was wrong and when I was told it was cancer I didn't feel upset, didn't and haven't cried, I just said ok, it is what it is to the doctor, I have no control over it and  just want to fight it and live for as long as I can.

Is this normal to feel like this ?

The only feeling I have is being totally annoyed and angry  that a year ago my original GP did nothing   .... But that will be a job for a solicitor at a later date.....

  • Hi Burt

Sorry to hear you may have testicular cancer and it was not picked up on  earlier. You have had very good care from your current GP and incredibly quick referals to the various departments which would normally take several weeks / months. You may not have heard from the doctor yet about the results of the CT scan as they take around 2 weeks to be available. Your feelings are quite normal for a suspected diagnosis of cancer. Seriously reconsider the solicitor bit as you will need all your energies to get through this. Cases of medical negligence are seldom won and cost a lot of money. Best of luck.

  • Hi Ed, thanks for the reply. Yes it's all happened in less than a week, pretty amazing support to be honest...

All my blood results came back normal but They told me straight away I have testicular cancer by just looking at the ultrasound scan, I'm waiting for the CT results to see if or where it's spread.

They are removing my testicle in the next few days, I just assumed I would have had the CT results before the op.

It's fine I have to consult a solicitor anyway as if it is a certain type of cancer it may or may  not be linked to asbestos exposure I received unknowingly for 9 years  from a multinational company which I've been on the National UK asbestos register for, for the last 15 years I can't go into details on here.

    Thanks once again Nick
