Bowie cancer returned to my peritoneum

Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in June 2024 and had a right hemicolectomy followed by harrowing chemotherapy. A year later I had a routine CT scan and was diagnosed as terminal as the cancer had returned to my abdomen. In my peritoneum. I’m due to see my oncologist again on Friday and this is to discuss treatment going forward. I may be able to have a very serious operation in Basingstoke, I live in the North East, this operation isn’t a cure it’s to extend life. Or I may have Chemotherapy until it stops working.
As you can imagine I’m starting to become very frightened of the future. My husband has Vascular Dementia and Type1 Diabetes with complications.

A lot of this is fear of the unknown and how much time I have left either with or without treatment. I’m sorry for the lengthy introduction.
thank you for reading.

  • Hi Furryclaws,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. No need to apologise - it's exactly what this forum is here for. I understand what you say about fear of the unknown. It sounds like you have your appointment tomorrow, so hopefully this will be helpful in terms of giving information about next steps.

It may be helpful to write down any questions or worries you have ahead of the appointment, so you can talk everything through - and then make notes about what they say also.

I hope that this forum can be useful for you - we're always here whenever you need it, even if it's just to write things down.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
