  • Hi Petert7629,

A big welcome to our forum where I hope you will meet others who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I hope you won't mind but to increase the chances of your post being spotted by someone who has had prostate cancer and had to make similar treatment choices, I have changed the title of your thread and I hope this will mean you will get relevant replies from our members. One name that springs to my mind is  who was also diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years ago and therefore has quite a bit of personal experience of prostate cancer and treatments and there are also many others here on the forum who I hope will come and say hello and share their story with you.

It's always a difficult decision to have to make especially as you can't know in advance what side effects if any you will experience from these treatments. On our website you will find detailed information about treatment for prostate cancer including a section on hormone therapy for prostate cancer and on radiotherapy for prostate cancer which I hope you will find useful. Feel free also to ring our nurse helpline on this free number 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call if you would like to talk things through with them.

I will now let our members who have had a prostate cancer diagnosis share their insights. It's worth talking to your medical team about the pros and cons of each treatment and about which treatment would have maximum impact in their opinion - it's such a difficult decision to have to make that it is worth having all the information to hand before settling for one treatment or another.

Best of luck making this important choice and I hope it all goes well for you whatever you decide! Keep us updated if you get a chance on how things progress for you.

  • Hi Peter, and a warm welcome from me, As Moderator Lucie has said, I have some experience of prostate cancer PCa and treatments, diagnosed over 3 years ago,, with spread to lymph nodes and 4 organs, so had hormone therapy HT, from the beginning and radiotherapy RT, "4 weeks,"10 months into HT treatment, which is/was a standard treatment at the time, for advanced prostate cancer APCa, for the vast majority of people, treatments have moved on since then, so I'm a little unsure why your options are either HT or RT, would you be ok sharing your cancer stats, PSA, Gleason score and TNM staging, and how many lymph nodes are cancerous, as for side effects, almost everyone gets them to some degree, fatigue is familiar to almost everyone, but it's impossible to say who, and how hard, anyone will be hit by them, but there are many ways to treat almost all of them, but as to which option to choose that is your choice my friend, as a very general rule HT side effects tend to last to some degree, unless treatable, all the time your on them, RT side effects are fewer, but more severe.
