Breast cancer that has spread to the bones

My 84 year old mum has just been diagnosed a couple of days ago. The doctor informed us that it's a significant mass in her breast and there's evidence of it in the armpit and lymph nodes. Six weeks ago my mum got a back fracture but didn't have a fall. We think the cancer may have spread to her bones. We're waiting for a follow up hospital appointment to learn how bad it is. I'm just wondering if chemotherapy/radiation treatments are beneficial to an 84 year old who isn't in great health?

  • Hi Lytham45 I am sorry to hear about your Mum.  I have secondary breast cancer in pelvis, spine, ribs and skull.  They are treating it with targeted therapy.  Which are in tablet form.  I have three a day for three weeks and then one week break and then start again.  Also an injection called Denosumab every four weeks to strengthen the bones.  I dont think they need to do chemo and radiotherapy for your Mum.  They said I could have radiotherapy on my spine when the pain got too bad but I am putting this off. Oncologist said a good quality of life is what he is aiming for and I am happy with this. I wish your Mum lots of luck and sending you hugs.
