Stomach cancer

Hello I am a 72 year old female and have been diagnosed with stomach cancer which will require total removal. Is there anyone in this forum who has, or is going through the same thing?

  • Hi Dono and a warm welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with stomach cancer and I can imagine it is a very anxious time for you as you are waiting for this big surgery involving total stomach removal. You will find detailed information on our website on stomach cancer and within the section on treatment for stomach cancer you will see this page on surgery for stomach cancer which I hope you will find useful to help you prepare ahead of your operation. If you have any questions on the surgery or on anything else, there is a nurse helpline you are welcome to call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

But as nothing quite replaces hearing from personal stories and experiences, I thought I would have a little look around the forum to find other threads that might be of interest to you written by members who were also recently diagnosed with stomach cancer and had the same surgery. Just a few days ago,  posted this thread on being diagnosed with stomach cancer and  posted this thread four months ago after being diagnosed with stomach cancer and they mentioned at the time that they were going to have chemotherapy then surgery. Feel free to respond to these threads if you would like to do so - these are just a couple of examples but you can find more by typing the keyword 'stomach cancer' in our forum search which is located at the top of the page.

I hope that I will be joined by others in welcoming you to Cancer Chat and that you will hear from the experiences of others who have been diagnosed with stomach cancer and who have had or are also waiting to have surgery.

Best of luck for the surgery. Have you already got a date for it?  I hope it all goes well and that you make a quick and full recovery.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Dono

I am 61 year old and been told my stomach cancer is inoperable!! Due to the position and unusual cancer SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA which apparently doesn’t grow in the stomach but it has in mine! I am waiting to go a hospital in Manchester to see if they can consider any treatment. I am very sorry to hear about your cancer and full stomach removal - It doesn’t feel like you are happy at all, and this is understandable, BUT at least they can do something for you to extend your life, honestly that is luck in its self.

I do hope your Operation goes well and wish you a healthy speedy recovery. ️
