Bowel cancer.

It went from constipation to a blockage in my bowel overnight.

The growth was removed by key hole surgery and yes it was cancer which was completely removed.

Now we come to chemo. I've just found out the enormity of it.

I'm terrified.

  • Hello Jan-at-home and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I can imagine that everything happening so quickly has been difficult to process, so it's important to give yourself time and space. If you'd like information around treatment for bowel cancer and the possible next steps, you can also find that on our website, as well as guidance on how cancer can make you feel. Your medical team will be there to support with any concerns sand we have a free cancer nurse helpline if you'd wish to speak to someone about your chemotherapy. You can call for free on 0808 800 4040 and lines are open from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

I hope this is helpful for you and keep us updated,

  • Hello Jan-at-home,

yes a positive diagnosis comes as shock with the following chemo a worrying unknown. The big positive was the surgery was a complete success so thats a big step on your road to recovery.

Try not to prejudge what chemo will bring, it affects everyone different with some hardly at all.Just take each day, then each week at a time. l took comfort in the fact that it was challenging, perversely if it was no problem your worrying would switch to whether or not it was working.

Look forward to the better you that emerges out from the other side of treatment,

    Take care,

    David.
