There is hope - I had metastatic cancer which went to my brain

I had a right  hemicolectomy back in May of 2020 so on the 30th of May this year I will be 5 years clear..unfortunately at the same time of diagnosis I also was given the news that I also had lung cancer albeit a different cancer  which I was told about..next I had a metastatic cancer which went to my brain I now have two brain tumours and then my lung flared up again ....more chemo and radiation  followed ...o and did I mention I already had C.O.P.D.........I've just had my three monthly scans and up to now I am stable.. I'm writing  this hopefully  giving hope to some cancer patients who are finding it hard to except their diagnosis and to say there is hope..I'm living my life everyday is a bonus and I thank God...

  • Hi Bongo,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

It sounds as if you've had quite a time with your cancer journey so far, but I'm glad to hear that you are stable. Thank you for telling us of your experience, as I'm sure that it will help others who are struggling with their diagnosis. I sincerely hope that you continue to hold your own against this awful disease.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and 1 of pre-cancer - all within a year of each other. I was first diagnosed 15 years ago and like you, I welcome each new day and thank God that I am so fortunate.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    • Yes, it's been a long ongoing road, and 2 weeks ago I ended up in Hospital  for 14 days on oxygen as I somehow contacted RSV it's a serious child's respiratory virus that was nasty..but I'm still here the man above hasent finished with me yet..lol..but u just have go pick urself up and get on with things....I hope u continue  in health..
  • Hi Bongo,

You could have done without the RSV on top of everything else. Life has a habit of hitting us, when we're down. I hope that you are fully recovered now. We only get the one shot at life, so we either let our health rule our life or, as you say, we pick ourselves up and carry on - good for you!

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine I hope ur well?. I'm getting there slowly but surely the good news this week is my 2 brain tumours are stable after my 3 monthly MRI, thank you Lord, and also thanks for the lovely  weather it's so uplifting...I hope u have had a good week as well....

  • My wife has just been diagnosed with metastases in the brain from colon cancer, which had started to respond to Folfiri. Devastating as she just had the word the main metastases were reduced 50%.
More or less overnight she had dizziness, loss of hearing and numbness down LHS face. Not sure it is responding to steroids.

What sort of treatment did you have? Was radiotherapy debilitating? Full head or targeted? Any chemo?
Good luck, you are on the right track
    regards
