Life after cancer

Hi my names emily I'm 46 and was diagnosed with invasive carcinoma in March 2024 had lumpectomy and 18 lymphnodes removed 16 rounds of chemo and 15 sessions of radian ,this ended dec 24th 2024.Im now on hormone therapy and my family treat me like there's nothing wrong with me

  • Hi Emilypiggy (love your name).  Same with me.  I had breast cancer 12 years ago aged 47, had lumpectomy, chemo, radiotherapy and hormone tablets.  Now last year it came back and it is incurable.  Thing is I dont look sick.  People have no idea what it it like having cancer.  It changes your life forever.  You just want your old life back.  It is very exhausting and sometimes you just want people to shut up and when they say 'you are lucky to be here' I just want to slap them.  Want to trade places with me?  Have you had any counselling, maybe this will help as you can offload and say things that you couldnt say to your family.  Macmillan have a good support network and nurses are lovely.  Sending you hugs.

  • Hi Emily,  I am glad to hear that you have support.  Are you resenting people who dont have cancer?  Sometimes I think that life is unfair and ask why me?  I guess I will never know why me.  I just take every day as it comes now.  Are you working at the moment?  One thing I learned was to try and keep to your normal routine as much as possible.  My cancer has now spread to pelvis, spine, ribs and skull.  I am taking enjoyment from the small things in life.  I also find that keeping active helps me, I have four dogs which I walk every day (that is my space and time just for me).  I am here if you want to chat.  Take care x
