Ulsterlady - diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Have recently started radiation therapy

Hi my name is Angela…I’m 72 years old,  and I’ve recently been diagnosed with tonsil cancer T3N1 with a small node in lung as well. My treatment plan  is radiation therapy…2 grays  over seven weeks (35 sessions). Today will be my third session….I appreciate that I may face a rough road ahead (my brother in law is two years ahead of having nasopharyngeal cancer, and so I have some idea of just how tough treatment can be). I read a lot from different forums and I do believe that sharing info and experiences can be very helpful as we go on this journey together.

  • Hello Angela, and welcome to the forum

I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis that brought you to the Cancer Chat community. It sounds like you have a pragmatic approach to things, and I'm sure that will stand you in good stead over the coming weeks and months.

Certainly, sharing information and lived experiences can be really beneficial when undergoing treatment. We have quite a few community members who have been through treatment for different oral and throat cancers, and I know how much sharing their experiences has helped some of them. I'd suggest having a look at this thread and maybe posting a reply to introduce yourself there. You might also find on that thread a link shared by  aka Hazel, detailing her treatment for tonsil cancer. I know that others have found her personal blog to be helpful.

If at any point it would help to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support, you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things go as smoothly as possible for you, Angela. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We're here for you.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
