newly diagnosed Prostate cancer stage 4

I am 78 years old, in reasonable health (part from the cancer) and prior to a urinary blockage in December, i had no symptoms.

I have not yet started treatment apart fro m Bicalutamide (150mg 1 x day). While I am waiting for an appointment  have been search the net for possible treatments.

I believe that the cancer has spread, but I wonder if a radical Prostatectomy by robotic surgery might be advisable as a first step; at my age erectile dysfunction and sex life limitations are not a problem.

i would be most grateful for any one any thoughts/ suggestions.

Thanks

  • Hi IronMicky and welcome, I'm sorry to hear you have prostate cancer, Bicalutamide is the first treatment for most of us and will stop the cancer in it's tracks, while you wait to see your oncologist and maybe a surgeon. Micky it's very unusual to have surgery if your cancer has spread, more likely hormone therapy HT, with radiotherapy RT, or HT with chemotherapy, with the latest treatment being triple therapy, a combination of HT, RT, and chemotherapy, but without your stats and full diagnosis it's not possible to say which option is for you, but can I say while researching you stick with trusted websites, prostate cancer uk, macmillan, NHS and cancer research, best wishes with your consultation, and when you get your stats, If I can help, you only have to ask.
