Hello ErnieWise,
It's completely normal to 1 year on, after the surgery and everything you've been through to still think about it even though the cancer is gone. Have a look at the section on our website on Life Beyond Cancer . You will find there more information on the impact going through cancer can have on your mental health even after treatment is finished. It can take time to adjust to life again after you have finished treatment so be kind and patient with yourself and if you feel it's all a bit much and it is having a serious impact on your quality of life, talk to your doctor about it and I am sure they will be happy to guide you and advise you further. This forum is also a great space to connect with others living with and beyond cancer so I hope that you will hear from other members who can relate to what you are experiencing one year on.
There is also our nurse helpline you can ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call simply to talk things through if it helps.
We're all here for you anytime you need to chat to others who have been in the same boat!
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
Just had colonoscopy on Sunday and CT on Monday. All clear. There were many tears in the house. Feeling happy.
Hi ErnieWise so glad to hear that you got the all clear, that is certainly worth celebrating .

Hi I feel the same way. Any new pain or discomfort I automatically think it’s back again.
can I ask, is it normal to have a pain/ache on the breast I had the lumpectomy on?
Hi Shirl23 I had a lumpectomy 12 years ago and I still get pain in that breast and sometimes under my arm. I did say to someone else that I think this is normal and it ended up with her having an abscess in that breast so I would say get it checked out. How long ago did you have the lumpectomy? Take care.
Lee
Hi Lee, yes I have contacted the breast care clinic and they are getting me in for an ultrasound, just wait for the appointment to come through. She did say she was quite sure it isn’t anything to worry about. I had my lumpectomy in January 2024.
Thank you for your reply, take care.
Despite me being given the all clear, I still
imagine something is still
not quite right. The problem is largely in my head.
Fingers crossed that
the only issue is your head working unnecessary overtime. That’s my issue.
