Our Karen

Hi everyone. I'm Derek. My wife Carol and I were informed a week ago that our eldest daughter Karen - she's 56 -  has been diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour.

We have three other grown-up children and have 10 grandchildren between them, plus one great-grandson.

I'm trying my best to keep myself positive and to encourage EVERONE else to do likewise.

Today, however, I'm feeling very sad ... sigh. x

  • Hi Derek, and a warm welcome to the forum, though I'm so sorry you have to be here and for your daughters diagnosis.

Having just come through, what you and your family are just starting, I wanted to offer my best wishes to you all, at what I know is every parents worst nightmare, being positive is so important, but so is accepting there will be tough days as well.

My first partner "seperated but still very close," and I also have four grown up children, and it was our eldest, Mandy 52yo, who was diagnosed with sarcoma of the breast, a recurrence from breast cancer  13 years ago, as with her first diagnosis, she was also told this time it was terminal, both times she has proved them wrong, only last week she was told treatment had been successful, so stay strong my friend, you have a wonderful family to support each other, your daughter is still relatively young, and today's treatments are amazing,  I will have everything crossed for your daughter and her family.

    Eddie xx
