  • I am thinking did I hear the doc right did he really say i have cancer my mind is doing tricks on me

    Don't know what to do

  • Hi I had papillary carcinoma thyroid cancer I had total thyroidectomy and got the all clear. I have to take levothyroxine for rest of life and on calcium tablets I had the surgery last July. Try not to worry as thyroid cancer has a very good survival rate.  I known the  word cancer is horrible I've actually had melanoma too. I would not of known about the thyroid cancer if I did not have melanoma. Do you know how big it is if you dont mind me asking.  Happy to answer any questions you have.

  • Hello thank you for your reply

I don't know much about it doc just said he wants to take the whole lot away an that I will be on tablets the rest of my life

I am going on Friday to get a lump removed on my breast so there taking me in on February for thyroid

We're u in hospital long getting ur thyroid out

Did your melanoma spread to your thyroid

  • I was in hospital for 2 nights it was not that bad. No melanoma did not spread to thyroid I had two different cancers. Melanoma spread to a few lymph nodes in groin I'm in all clear at the moment.

  • Aw that is good news that your in the clear

  • Hiya. I had thyroid cancer five years ago and...well, the endocrinologist's comment was "oh, it's not the worst situation in the world". Which yeah, was a weird comment, but he did kind of have a point. Obviously, nobody wants any form of cancer but it's rarely life-threatening and doesn't require ongoing treatment. They basically just remove your thyroid and there is a pretty good chance that will cure it.

The tablets for life just replace your thyroid function. Apparently some people have difficulty getting the dose right but...I felt no difference whatsoever.

I was in hospital for nearly a week after the surgery because I had all the lymph nodes on one side of my neck removed as well as my thyroid. I do now know if you will need lymph node removal or not. My nodule was 10.5cm (yes, cm) and of that, apparently, 6.7cm was cancerous. So they were taking no chances.

I was back at work a month after my operation.

  • Hello

The doctor talked that fast I don't know what to think

I was up on Christmas eve at the hospital but the doctor says the suspect something is the but last Wednesday the said remove the lot

    Glad the got it all

Do u have a scar now

  • Yep, but it's barely noticeable. About 4 months after the operation, I had to point it out for a doctor because he couldn't see it. You sort of have to know what you are looking for.

  • Hi did you still have some tightness I   neck mainly when tilting head backwards and when swallowing I had my surgery in july 2024. I was supposed to mention it to thyroid consultant but forgot I've been discharged now. Parathyroid just gone back to normal so no more calcium. I guess it will get better in time.  Maybe I should carry on with the neck excersices.
