NEWBY diagnosed with prostate cancer

Been in pain with lower back for 2 years , kept going to doctors and eventually my Doctor did some routine bloods, by pure chance my PSA levels were just above average. Diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer,  The pain is horrendous , however my Doctor has said it has not spread and is confined to the prostate. Had hormone tablets and an injection that will last 6 months, should have started radiotherapy end of January, but that has been delayed as they cant get a CT SCAN as i have too much gas, so going back thursday.

This is my first post and really am struggling emotionally.

  • Hello bigbadbazzajunior,

A warm welcome to our friendly community. I am so sorry to hear you are struggling emotionally and also that you are in so much pain following your prostate cancer diagnosis. It's good news though it has not spread and is confined to the prostate and I hope that the treatment will be a success. There is a lot of useful information on our website on treatment for prostate cancer including on radiotherapy for prostate cancer. It must be frustrating for you that there have been those delays and I hope that all goes well tomorrow on Thursday. Let us know how your appointment goes.

I just wanted you to know that you are not alone here dealing with a prostate cancer diagnosis and I hope that others will pop by and share their experience with you. One of our members   would be a great and very friendly person for you to talk to and has also been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

If you want to chat to one of our cancer nurses at any point about your diagnosis, treatment or any question that springs to your mind, the number to ring is 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,
