Recently got news of lung cancer surgery next Monday I'm lost
Hi Budda,
I am so sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with lung cancer and I wanted to share with you the information we have on our website on lung cancer where you will find out more about treatment for lung cancer including surgery.
I hope that everything goes well - best of luck for the surgery and if you get a chance do come back here and let us know how it all went. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and there are other members of our community who have been affected by lung cancer and just this evening I replied to T4TAFA - this member's dad was diagnosed a while ago with non small cell lung cancer as you can read in his story and I hope that you will hear from some of our members who have been affected by lung cancer. It helps sometimes to talk to others who find themselves in a similar boat.
I thought I would also give you our nurse helpline so that you can call them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if there is anything you would like to talk through either prior your operation or afterwards - the number to call is free and it's 0808 800 4040.
I hope all goes well for you and wishing you a quick and full recovery.
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

Hi Budda I was diagnosed with lung cancer last June and was fortunate to have surgery in September to remove part of my tight lung ,the surgery went very well ,I was in hospital for 3 nights I was really scared of how I would be after surgery but recovered very well just did as I was told and rested a lot, I hope this helps you ,I know how you are feeling and wish you well ,
Thank you so much my friend that's positive news thank you again. Waiting on ct scans now was meant to be in tomorrow but surgery is on the 27th. Thanks again for getting back to me
Like Pineapple, I was diagnosed with lung cancer at the start of last year, had surgery (right lower lobe lobectomy) in April, was in hospital for three nights and made a good recovery. Discharged on the Saturday, I was already making a cooked meal the next day.
I was also concerned about how I'd be after the operation. I just took things easy and gradually did more day by day.
Wishing you well and a good and speedy recovery, Sharon
Thank you Sharon I'm just waiting very inpatientantly on the ct scans coming back head like a washing machine. But thank God both of you have atleast put my mind at rest a fair bit about recovery time when it's done . If nothing changes il be in next Sunday operation on Monday key hole left lung . Thanks again for getting back to me I will of course get back with my own experience
Hello.
Of course everyone has a different recovery experience.
My advice is to make sure you've got plenty precooked meals made in the freezer, incase you don't feel like cooking.
Not sure if you know, but the Roy Castle lung cancer website has loads of useful information. They've got a booklet (you can download a pdf) about lung cancer surgery, which may be of interest. Page 31 contains a useful guide as to what you can expect to achieve once you're home from the operation.
Wishing you a successful operation and praying for your speedy recovery.
Do let us know how you get on.
