So very scared and alone - lump in left breast has grown, doctors now rushing to look at it

I am so sorry to be here and to write this, I know there are a great many others who are fighting. I am 65 years old and alone. My beloved husband of 37 years caught Covid in the first wave and died. I am totally alone. no families left, just me and my two cats. I have chronic pain, mobility issues and other conditions and am a great risk for anaesthetic. For about a year I have had lumps in both breasts. they said they would just keep an eye on them with regular mammograms which they have done. One in my left breast has grown and I have had bleeding. Now they are rushing to look at it. They want to do it under local but will not give me any other information. I had to look on the internet for information. I thought I wanted to die but now I find I don't. I'm just scared and alone.

  • I'm so sorry to hear this. I don't know who "they" are but you need to talk to someone. Have you been assigned a Macmillan nurse? Can you talk to someone at your GP surgery? Are you near a Maggie's or Macmillan centre? Google local cancer support. I'm fortunate to have a local group and maybe you have one too? Macmillan and Cancer Research offer telephone support lines. You are not alone but you need to take that first step.

Sending you my very best wishes.
