Just diagnosed with bladder cancer

Hi. I'm Dave

13th December i diagnosed with bladder cancer, ... All thoughts was going through my head as you can imagine. I was petrified the thought of dying but i have learned to cope with it in a short space of time with enormous help from new friends i have on  the McMillan site , they have given me the strength to at least try and cope with the cancer..

I have a CT scan 27th December and first TURBT operation to try and remove the cancer from bladder on 16th January.... Hopefully all goes well.

I know I've got a long road ahead of me with treatments etc but I'm ready to fight this disease.

Love to all

Dave

  • Hi Dave and a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I can imagine it was a bit of a shock to be diagnosed with bladder cancer on the 13th of December - so many questions start racing through your head following the shock of a cancer diagnosis and it can be truly scary and a lonely place to be when you feel that you are having to deal with this alone, that no one else around you has had the same diagnosis. As you have found out, it is not necessarily the case and I am so glad you have found some new friends on the Macmillan site who are going through something similar and I hope that you will also find others affected by bladder cancer on this forum and that you can support one another during this difficult time.

Not long to go now until the CT scan and the TURBT will soon follow and I hope that everything will go well for you and that the long road ahead with treatments will be as straightforward a journey as it can be and that you will soon come out the other side fully recovered from all this. You seem to be in good spirits which is great to see and I am wishing you the very best of luck for your operation.

I wanted to mention a few members I have found on the forum who have also had a recent bladder cancer diagnosis and who have had the TURBT too so that you can talk to others here who have been there before. These are just a few examples and there are many more but, for example,  posted this thread a few months ago and will probably have had the TURBT by now so hopefully you can chat and share experiences here.  also posted a TURBT related thread and would be another great person for you to connect with.  is another name that springs to my mind - this member's husband also went through all this and you can read their story on this thread and feel free to respond if you would like to do so. There is also this thread by  which you are also welcome to reply to. I hope that your post will be seen by others who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

Best seasonal wishes and best of luck for the CT scan and TURBT - do let us know how you get on if you get a chance!
