Ukmartian - undergoing treatment for incurable GIST

Just to say hello as i think i have just found this chat appologies if i have been here before lol but the last 4 months have been a rolllercoaster both physically and mentally.

I am now into my 4th round of chemo and immunotherapy  ( oxaliplatin,  capecitabine and nivalumab) I was innitially diagnosed in June with peretonial nodules whilst be investigated for a possible ulcer , after presenting with symptoms in may. After further investigation they discover a Gist which was identified as a a Adenocarcinoma which warranted a pyloric stent apparently quite rare ...I was told it was inoperable and incurable . At the moment I have no idea of the long term out come but a 68 I would like to get into my 70's (at least to 75 lol)  so i can at least to see my grand children grow up.

I don't know if I am posting on the  right forum but I do have the occasional question touching on physical and psychological issues , if not perhaps a nudge in the right direction  .. .all the best all ..Steve

  • Hi Steve and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I noticed you haven't had a reply to your post just yet so I wanted to stop by to say hello and reassure you that your post has been seen.

It sounds like you've been on quite the journey over the last 4 months and with not knowing what may lie ahead, it's completely understandable why you may be struggling with your mental health. I hope the mental health and cancer section of our website will help you work through some of the thoughts and worries you may be contending with at the moment but if you would like to discuss any of this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They are very easy to talk and will do all they can to support you.

In regards to your physical issues, do make sure you let your medical team know so they can look after you properly and relieve you of any pain you may currently be in.

I hope some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice to you as well but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Steve and wishing you all the best with your treatment.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thanks for the reply ...I have spoken to my doctors etc , I am now on 100mg sertraline (I was on 50mg ) ..unfortunately the physical symptoms are, I think the main cause of frustration . I was also a foody loved my grub  but now I am on virtually a soup or baby food type slop ..even a glass of water for meds bloats me so food of any type is difficult ..the concensus is the chemo has slowed my digestion to such a extent that everything is backing up ..I am now taking metoclopramide, senna, buscopon and laxido to try and ' kickstart" things , as discussed to my care team ...hopefully this will help..
