Hi i have just been diagnosed with this , and i'm waiting to see what can be done for me ?
Hello Cmay
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's never easy to hear that you have cancer and it's not easy to have to wait for more tests and information from the specialists either. I hope that you are being well supported by family and friends in the meantime.
We do have information about pancreatic cancer on our website but you may also want to have a look at the information on the Pancreatic Cancer UK website.
If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0800 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for some news from the specialists. Do keep in touch and let us know when you have an update.
Best wishes,
Jenn

Hi there
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - my husband was diagnosed in February and it was a shock.
My husband had a CT scan and whilst it seemed to take ages waiting for the result they determined that Whipple surgery could be done to remove the tumour. It was a long operation, in March, but successful and he started chemo in May and it’s his last month on it this month.
We deal with the side effects on a day to day basis and he’s doing well .
i hope you get the help and support we have received from our local hospital and wish you good luck on your journey.
Jackie

Hi hope you don’t mind me commenting on your post, I am petrified I have pancreatic cancer, however I had a CT scan and it didn’t show anything worrying and my amylase levels are okay. II am experiencing some awful symptoms.
Hi there - it’s so worrying when you’re experiencing horrible symptoms - and it’s easy to think the worst when it may not be?
If I were you I’d go back to my GP with a full list of my symptoms and ask what it could be? It’s good that you’ve had a scan so some things have been ruled out
My husband had weight loss over a few months, out of control blood sugars ( he was a type 2 diabetic and had been controlling through diet - and was only 11 stones before he lost weight so not overweight) - blood sugar over 18 most of the time ( we asked the doctor for a blood sugar monitor at home then eventually got a Freestyle Libre), bowel issues, and some back pain.
Please try not to worry - hopefully it will be something easily treatable and your fears will be allayed.
I’m here if you want to talk further - you’re not on your own.
Jackie
It is I felt really bad yesterday, yeah I think I will ring them today, I got tested for Hpylori and it was negative so surely my symptoms mean something else, I have been tested for diabetes and my blood sugar levels are fine. Thank you for replying, I will try not to worry too much. Thank you that means a lot.
Hi Cmay
Sorry to hear you've been dx'ed with this awful disease.
I had a Whipple operation for Pancreas Adenocarcinoma in April and have been on chemo on/off since July. I'm a 54 yo male, and weighed 12.5 stone prior to surgery. After the op I lost 4-stone in as many weeks. If you have the Whipple then be conscious that it's major surgery and will take around 4-months to get back to eating normally and doing your previous levels of physical activity.
I'm 6-months post op and I returned to my job as a prison officer just last week. So getting back to your regular life is defo possible. Surgery is a big deal though, so if you're a candidate for it just remember that you'll need to rest a lot afterwards. I mean a LOT. Recovery takes a long time and improvements are very slow but steady.
Good luck and please let us know what your dx and stage is when you're ready and able.
Craig
Can I ask what tests you got done and what tests you had done? My Dr doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with my pancreas which is good but am still a bit worried about it.
Hi Nic108
Can I ask what symptoms you're experiencing, and also your age? My symptoms were gradual involuntary weightloss, fatigue, and a gnawing pain in my upper right stomach area. I had a CT four months prior to my DX, and it too came back clear. My liver tests and blood work were also okay at that time.
I was literally ignoring the worsening pain and fatigue for the four months after the clear scan, but then I became very jaundice. I was admitted to hospital, and from there I had new bloodwork done which showed huge elevations in liver counts and amalase enzyme. An endoscopic procedure revealed a large 5cm tumour in the pancreatic head. Four months earlier though, I had all the symptoms, but strangely the CT scan and bloodwork were all normal. The sudden onset jaundice literally saved my life.
It's extremely unlikely you've got cancer - more specifically, pancreatic cancer. Scans 95% of the time will show even the smallest tumours. My doctor described my tumour as possibly being occluded from detection due to its originally small size - at the time of the CT - and its location. So a clear scan 19 out of 20 times, will mean it's a clear scan, free of any masses. However, if your symptoms are bad and worsening it's still important to press on for answers.
Best regards
Craig
Hi am 31, I have mid back pain, which can sometimes cause stomach pain too, itchy skin, I have lost over stone since May, frequent urination, night sweats and loss appetite. I also had a CT scan which came back clear and my blood tests are currently normal, my amylase was 49 so ave been told that’s fine. My pain can be really bad at times. I hope I don’t end up worse, I have been like this since May.
