Worried about pain from transperineal prostate biopsy

I am scared stiff about having my transperineal prostate biopsy next week because of the pain has anyone had the same biopsy and is it really that painfull please anyone.

  • Hi niloct ,no it is not painful, most have it under a local anaesthetic and injecting it may sting a little for a  few seconds then once the anaesthetic is working there i no pain though you may feel what is happening and it feels weird it doesn't hurt, You may request a general anaesthetic though it may mean your biopsy is delayed, best wishes.

  • Hi Eddie thanks for the reply it's very reassuring to hear that from someone who has had it, I'm doing my best to stay posative about the out come as my PSA score was really low and normal at 1.37 and the nodule they found could be something else, anyway I hope you are doing well and wish you all the very best.

  • Hi Colin, I am no expert, but a PSA of 1.37 is encouraging, just wanted to give you a heads up, you will be given a short course of antibiotics which you start a couple of days before your biopsy, as taking the samples can cause a little bleeding which could let infection in so don't worry if there's a little blood when you pee, it's normal. best wishes and thank you for yours, and I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I hope i never hear from you again, take care.

  • You too Eddie and thank you.
