I was just wondering if anybody else has experienced this as I thought the diagnosis process would be so different and I’m struggling to believe it. I got a phone call from my GP on Monday asking me to go in that same day (I’ve had several tests/bloods done recently so I assumed it was about the latest blood test results). They didn’t mention if I wanted to bring somebody with me so to me, it was just a regular appointment.
I knew I was on the pathway for possible lower gastro-intestinal cancer but assumed anything to do with that would come from the specialist I’d seen. My GP told me the CT scan from a couple of weeks earlier had shown a rather large mass on my left kidney and he told me it was cancer. I asked him if there’s a chance it wasn’t but he said it’s definately cancer. He also said there is a concern it could have spread. He told me the urologist would be in touch in about a week or so because they need to have a meeting to discuss the next steps.
I’m really confused about the process, is this how it usually is - being told you have cancer, no further details and told you have to wait? I assumed I’d find out the same time I was told was the next steps were. This is driving me crazy. How long did people usually wait before they found out what happened next? Thanks x
