Hazel - my mastectomy experience

Hi everyone I had a mastectomy in January after been diagnosed with breast cancer . I was lucky I didn’t need any more treatment after but I want to reassure people who are waiting for this operation that it isn’t as bad as people think it is . You get plenty of pain relief and they were letting me out that day if I wanted to . I stayed the night only to talk to the lovely ladies in ward with me and we laughed most the night . I couldn’t believe how well I was even though I was tired with the tables .please just think positive and don’t worry about getting this done as it’s getting rid of your cancer and really saving your life . I’m even going back next year to have reconstruction which involves two operations so it must not of been that bad to have my mastectomy in the first place . Anyway good luck to everyone who is waiting to go in but I no you won’t need it .

  • Hi Hazel

I would agree with you that the masectomy is not as bad as you would imagine, the pain is incredibly low and the recovery quick, I am so pleased you have no further treatment necessary for you, I will definatly have hormone therapy, but currently waiting to see if HER2 + if so will have to have targeted treatment also. I have been waiting 8 weeks since surgery for results and this is much worse than the masectomy. Keep smiling and sharing your positivity xx

  • Just found out I have Her2  had breast cancer removed but found out it in my spine now so start chemo tablets and hormone tablets also injection for bones .I have 2daughter so they will be tested but me having my cancer will help my daughter in the future so that my positive thoughts I have not going though this for nothing take care keep smiling to x
