Newly Diagnosed oesophageal cancer

I’m quite a stoical person, so accepted the diagnosis with the attitude that (I’ll beat this), then came the stage of uncle Google research, quite scary, my wife was away on holiday at the time, so I had to blatantly lie during our video calls, and say I was fine, no problems here, I was more nervous about telling her when she returned, than the diagnosis. Then came the the thoughts, how do I tell my children, grandchildren, what effect will it have on them ? Stay strong everyone, big hugs to all fellow sufferers, regards Alan

  • Hi Alan,

I’ve been there and it really stinks. The way I received my own diagnosis was a good example of how not to do it.
Forget Dr Google, the Internet is full of conspiracy theories and outdated data.
An awkward question - did they use the word “terminal” or did they say “incurable” or “inoperable”? I only ask because these often get confused and conflated.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • They used the dreaded word, terminal, im 6 ft, 16 stone, she said you don’t look ill though, apparently it’s spread to my spine and lymph nodes, the bizzare thing is, I don’t feel ill, I’m determine and obstinate, that’s my wife’s opinion not mine, I’ll see what happens tomorrow with the oncologist, it’s out of my circle of control now, so waiting to be advised by others,

  • Good luck for tomorrow.
Determned and obstinate sounds like a requirement.
