PSA rising after Prostrate Removal

Hi all,

just joined this forum and looking for anyone who has had same issue as myself

I am 61 , had an initial Gleason score of 7 (3+4).

Had my prostrate removed June 2022.

First year PSA was 0.01 - undetectable.

Last 2 over a year raised from 0.01 to 0.03 and last one this month 0.07.

Consultant has arranged another PSA test in 3 months - but said it is rising. Couldn't really take in what he said as a blur - but said if it gets to 0.2 then may have to consider radiation!

Anyone gone down this route at all and if so any info you can pass on.

  • Hi PIL1962 and welcome to the forum, No personal experience, but a few friends have had a prostatectomy followed by biochemical recurrence, which happens to 30% of guys who have their prostate removed. As the lowest your Gleason score got to was undetectable this is called the nadir and as your consultant has said a rise of 0.2 above your nadir usually calls for treatment. as you are having regular checks and your PSA is rising, though still very low, suggests there are just a few cancer cells left behind after surgery which was the case with my friends who all  had radiotherapy RT and although they have had RT within the last 7 years, results have been excellent for them all. best wishes.
