Hi all. I am new on the forum. I have just been diagnosed with kidney cancer. I would welcome any advice on how soon surgery is normally done.
Hello Summer-swallow and a very warm welcome to our friendly forum!
I am sorry to hear about your recent kidney cancer diagnosis and I hope that you will hear from the experiences of others who have been diagnosed with this type of cancer before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you. Our website has detailed information on surgery for kidney cancer which I hope will answer questions you may be asking yourself. I am not sure exactly how quickly after diagnosis surgery is normally done but this is something you can probably find out by asking your medical team who will be aware of what the waiting times currently are in your area.
Should you have any questions on the surgery or on kidney cancer in general, our team of nurses is available on this free number 0808 800 4040 and you are welcome to ring their helpline Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
There's nothing though like hearing from the personal experiences of other patients who have been through this before, who have been given a kidney cancer diagnosis and who have had the surgery and recovered from it. I've had a little look on our forum for recent threads from others who have had a kidney cancer diagnosis and thought I would mention a few which may be of interest to you and to whom you could respond to if you wish. Jay58 posted this kidney cancer diagnosis thread last month mentioning they needed to have their kidney removed so I think they would be a great person for you to chat to here. Mardybun posted here about their kidney cancer diagnosis and would also be someone you could exchange experiences with on the forum as well as Timboat who posted this thread you are also welcome to respond to. This was just to name a few but there will be many more members of our community who have been through this before and who I hope will be along shortly and share their story with you. They will be able to tell you more for example on how long it took them to have the surgery and I certainly hope that you won't have to wait too long for treatment to begin.
Wishing you the very best of luck for treatment and that it all goes well for you. We're here anytime you need to chat! Keep in touch if you get a chance and let us know how you get on.
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
