Kidney Cancer Diagnosis

Hi

I have recently been diagnosed to have kidney cancer .

This was after having a CT scan due to anaemia.

urgent referral unit phoned and asked me to attend an appointment regarding my scan

I was very shocked and saddened by being informed I had a tumour in my kidney and as it is in the middle (4.6cm) I need to have my kidney removed

I have now been referred to a London hospital and waiting  a phone call for my first appointment. My diagnosis was 2 weeks ago.
should just wait or contact my consultant.
I am finding the waiting and the shock of the diagnosis stressful

any feedback or advise would be helpful

thank you.

  • Hello Jay58

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. It's understandably a shock when this news comes out of the blue as you've described.

I certainly don't think there's any harm in contacting your Consultant's secretary to chase up the referral to the specialist in London. Sometimes admin errors do happen so I'm sure it would be helpful for you to have some peace of mind that the referral has been sent and to know a time frame in which you might hear from the new team.

In the meantime, I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and information they can as well as help you think about any questions that you might want to ask at your next appointment. If you think this might be useful, the nurses are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some answers soon Jay58. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
