Still dismayed! Financial problems and now facing chemo for stage 4 cancer

I have always believed that a civilised society is judged by ( I paraphrase) how it takes care of its elderly, the young,, and the sick and infirm.
Some time ago, British Gas, or whatever they are now, bought-out my usual provider ( No one told me!) there ensued a difficult situation, culminating in a nine thousand pounds bill. During one period, even in the Summer, despite using small heaters to augment the main heating, I could not get warm
necesssitating the heating being on day and night. I was approached by qa solicitor, via letter, suggesting all kinds of dire consequences. Yet I have attempted the usual channels, such as negotiating repayment terms etc., all the usual procedures. It toook them an age even to come read the meter. I am sorry that this is somewhat garbled. I was optimistic about the imminent chemo sessiions, but.....this has caused me distress, which otheris I did not have about the cancer.I am now so ennervated that I am concerned that I will not have enough strength, which is surely to undermine any treatment. I hope that each of you is doing as well as you can be! I wonder if you have experienced similar? Again I will apologise for this being so garbled, illiterate, misspelt...... And I never did see how to change the font size! I Wish you a pleasant and inspired day! Kindest Regards

  • Welcome to the forum Tamino although I'm sorry to hear about the financial problems you're contending with and the impact this is having on you in the run up to your chemo. This must be very stressful.

I'm not sure if this is something you have already looked in to, but you can find out what financial support is available to you, including help with bills, on our website. I hope this helps but for further information and advice it may be worth getting in touch with Macmillan as they have specialised financial advisers you can discuss this, and Citizen's Advice.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Tamino and wishing you all the best with your chemo. If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment, do feel free to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

P.S To change the font size, you just need to click on the Format option that can be found at the bottom of your text box, and then Font sizes. I hope this helps.

  • Dear Steph, Thank you and to those whom wrote the script. Thankfully, I have been assisted in this by C.A.B., and Macmillan, and my carer has a law degree. So, my loins are quite girded! I was wondering tho, how many people have encountered this behaviour, thoe of us, whom are overwelmed, and have mental health issues already or set to develop them under these egrigious circumstances. I am very fortunate, but it grives me to think of those for whom debts i sen to be a shameful thing (Whilst the Gas provders are making profits from misery. SHAME!If we have anything to share after our calls with them, I shall be here! If you are on your own, please, pleas follow the advice above, kindly suggested by Steph. Speak to Citizens Advice, your local church or Social Services, or your local G.P. If you are nervous about speaking please write it in a letter. Connect. Make contact! I realize that I ramble on, but, I care. Onwards and upwards  and I hope your angel blesses you, Kind Regards, Jon
