Have been sent for tests after blood in urine . Doctor thinks I have cancer as no infection . He checked my urine and as soon as he did he said I had to go to hospital . I know I probably have a tumour but the more blood there is , does this mean that the Timor’s are bigger so the cancer is advanced or high grade?

  • Hi Philterence and welcome to the forum, I don't know why your GP has indicated you may have cancer because of haematuria as there are other reasons for this condition which happen with no infection, Is your GP going on laboratory blood test results, a dip stick test or that there is blood in your urine. I have prostate and bladder cancer and they both needed thorough testing to confirm diagnosis. Haematuria is an indicator of the possibility of cancer as well as several other things. Regarding the amount of blood, i passed no blood until after surgery and  treatment and apart from a bout of frank haematuria very little since. i do not know if the amount of blood has any indication on cancer grade or metastatic risk. take care

  • Thanks for that hope you are doing good. Yes the Doc told me my urine was free from infection but then dipped a sample I gave him there and then and he told me it had a lot of blood in it . I’m not even sure if a GP can see cancer though in a urine dip test ? . Thanks for your help

  • Hi Philterence i know a dip stick test played no part in my diagnosis and I have had my blood tested every 3 weeks for 10 years and my cancer as not picked up by it.
