at a loss

hello, yesterday, i was diagnosed with tonsil cancer which has gone to my gland, it has been like a smack in the face, as i thought it was due to a bad dentist extraction and was just infected, i am scared out my mind, as i wasn't given any kind of details by the doctor, he just wants me to go for another scan on the 20th feb, which has me thinking all kinds of bad, is it terminal? he wouldn't answer me, can they not get rid of it with treatment?  he wouldn't answer me, i asked him am i going to die? he wouldn't answer me, his stoic approach has given me the worst scenarios imaginable and i feel at a loss, bewildered, scared all at once, so if anyone has been through this type of cancer please could you let me know, is it normal to leave it that long or does it mean the worst? thank you and i feel for all in the same predicament

  • I'm not surprised you're scared and bewildered at your diagnosis who wouldn't be ,its a terrible shock to be told that ,I agree with Ben that the reason he didn't answer your direct questions is because I doubt at this stage they will know anymore than what they told you ,I wouldn't be reading into the fact your next appointment isn't until 20th Feb ,you probably know how busy they are ,at the same time I doubt they would leave you for so long if they thought things would get worse in that timescale ,whatever you do don't go to Google for information its really outdated and as we know great new treatments are available in the last few years so try to stay as positive as possible ,have a look at other peoples experiences with Tonsil cancer by typing it in the search forum above .

  • thank you Jenny, yes your advice is spot on, the first thing i did was google, which makes everything worse! may i ask how you are doing?, as you are on here i would presume that you are dealing with some type of cancer also, thank you i shall read up on here with other peoples experiences, i have just been worried because my gland is the size of a medium sized apple and fear it has spread to other parts of my body, the cancer seems to grow so fast, all because a stupid dentist botched a tooth extraction, thank you also for taking time out to reply to me, it is appreciated, it does help knowing others are going through the same, but at the same time i am sad that others are having to go through the same thing
