at a loss

hello, yesterday, i was diagnosed with tonsil cancer which has gone to my gland, it has been like a smack in the face, as i thought it was due to a bad dentist extraction and was just infected, i am scared out my mind, as i wasn't given any kind of details by the doctor, he just wants me to go for another scan on the 20th feb, which has me thinking all kinds of bad, is it terminal? he wouldn't answer me, can they not get rid of it with treatment?  he wouldn't answer me, i asked him am i going to die? he wouldn't answer me, his stoic approach has given me the worst scenarios imaginable and i feel at a loss, bewildered, scared all at once, so if anyone has been through this type of cancer please could you let me know, is it normal to leave it that long or does it mean the worst? thank you and i feel for all in the same predicament

  • Hi ichi,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your situation and that you don't have much information. If you have further tests coming up then it sounds like they don't yet have all the information to be able to update you with, which was perhaps why you weren't getting any answers to your questions.

I appreciate this uncertainty is difficult. Try to take things a day at a time and where possible try to keep busy to help keep your mind off any worries ahead of your appointment.

If you'd like to talk to someone in the meantime, you are welcome to give our nurses a call. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
