Lymphoedema

I got diagnosed with the BRAC2 Cancer in 2021 and since had a double  mastectomy and 9 lyympnodes from under my arm as it spreaded. I also partial hysterectomy.

I don't like myself anymore as I've got lymphoedema and feel as though I'm carrying a ton of bricks. It's affected my mobility badly and just walking to the corner is a problem.

I had an appt with the Clinic and will have to ask if I can get expert help with this situation as I'm very emotional.

  • Hi DJANE,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear that you are looking to get some help with this - this sounds like a good idea, and hopefully you can be directed to appropriate places and people for support. Talking to a professional may help in terms of improving feelings towards yourself.

Hopefully this forum can be of some help to you too. It's often helpful to write things down and reach out to others who understand. You can also search the forum (using the bar at the top of the page) for other relevant discussions and people to speak to, if you would like to.

Do take care of yourself and we are always here if you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi dianne i gave had primsry lymphodema for  20yr affecting both my legs. Have worn support style stockings which i hate. But the difference they made is great. I struggle to get shoes to fit and refuse to wear cosy toes etc. I have found easyfit in pavers very good, but down to you. I spend mist of my time wearing trousers ot maxi dresses to cover them up. Only recently in the summer i have worn knee length shorts, i do get some looks from strangers but i have got to the point where i turn to them and  tell them my condition.

I have now been diagnosed with a rare cancer leimyosarcoma which has knocked me for six. But i face everyday as best as i can. My prognosis isnt great but we are still here and have a life to live. Please donit let tthis hold you back
