Myelofibrosis

Hi my hubby has just been diagnosed with myelofibrosis through blood tests. He has had bone marrow biopsy and we get the results on 12th Feb. He is 71 and I'm terrified as to what the results might be. Having googled myelofibrosis it does not look to be a curable cancer. Any thoughts and experience with this would be much appreciated x

  • Hi PatsyR

I dont personally have experience of this, however a friends husband was diagnosed when he was in his early 50s.  I think treatment can depend on how agressive it is, sometimes people can go on for many years on medication, sometimes it progresses faster.  With him it progressed faster, he got onto a medical trial which he did well on and ended up having a stem cell transplant, he is now 2 years on and doing well.

She recommended the following website for getting further insight into the condition:

    mpnvoice.org.uk

Hopefully you will get further info from the consultant on 12th Feb.

    Best wishes

    Annie

  • Thank you Annie that was very helpful. We will have our fingers crossed until we see the consultant  .
