Bile duct cancer chemo with an auto-immune disease

Hi, I'm just registering again. I had a cancer myself in 2015 and made a full recovery. Sadly, my husband is now very sick with cholangiocarcinoma. We're all reeling. He is taking a lot of opiates and sleeping a lot. His pain is a constant pre-occipation. Keeping ahead of the pain with pain relief is the objective. Avoiding getting over-tired (very difficult to achieve). Staging was advised only on Friday. His pain has advanced considerably sine he went to the GP just a month ago (30 days). First out-patient appointment with oncologist on Tuesday coming, though a Cons Onc was seen as an in-patient last week.  Does anyone have relevant tips?  I'm not sure about having the immunotherapy in addition to standard treatment (chemo) as my husband has psoriatic arthritis, an auto-immune disease. (I've experienced Guillian Bare Syndrome myself (4 years ago), and I'm nervous about possible, very serious side effects.)

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat midlifemama and I hope your husband's appointment with the oncologist went ok today. I hope they were able to address your questions as they'll be the best person to speak to for understanding the options available. If you need more information on options and advice on coping with the symptoms, you can find it here. A loved one getting a diagnosis like this is difficult so it's important to take care of yourself as well.

I hope this is helpful and all the best to you,
