Green is the colour

Hello everybody

I'm Darren,  I have just joined this site today having been directed here after making a donation. I have recently turned 56   & was diagnosed with kidney cancer December 2022  after my first year of living with my condition I have now come to terms with what I have & try living my life going forward as normal as possible.

After  many dark months & moments of worry & dispare  I have decided this is what it is and I am now more stronger in my mind & soul to fight on. I would just like to thank all the wonderful caring sta ff at the hospital for the marvellous work they all do. I will be doing the glow green light walk in February  ( all being well )  it's my way of raising some much deserved funds & say  thank you  for the great care & treatment I receive each month when I visit.

  • Hi Darren,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

As someone who has had 2 bouts of breast cancer, I can empathise with all that you say. I am glad t hear that you have reached the stage of acceptance for the hand that you've been dealt. We only get one chance at life and need to make the most of it, despite any obstacles that come along. I am delighted to hear that you have had such good care from your care team and commend you for your willingness to raise some funds to help their cause.

I was first diagnosed 14 years ago and it took me some time to accept my lot in life. I feel that we are very fortunate to be living here in the UK, where everyone can access the excellent services of the NHS, not just those who can afford treatment, as in some other countries.

You will find this forum a great support, as you travel your cancer journey. No matter what your problem is, there is always someone who has had the same experience, who is willing to share any advice that might help you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • Thank you jolamine for you're kind words & welcoming me to the forum. I agree with what you say about accepting my condition, as it has took most of the last year coming to terms with this. But I now feel confident & stronger facing whatever lays ahead.

  • Hi Darren,

It is never easy to come to terms with such a diagnosis and it takes some people much longer than others to reach this stage. Now that you have, you should find it easier to move forward more positively and ready to embrace each new day as it comes along.

Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
