Newly diagnosed with lung cancer

Hi I’ve had surgery nearly three weeks ago for lung cancer, I am in turkey, and finding it hard to breath I went to hospital thinking I needed an antibiotic, I was given a mri and told that I possibly had lung cancer, I made an appointment with consultant for pet scan and had my surgery on 22nd nov,, all of the top lobe was removed and part of the bottom lobe, the surgeon said all of the cancer was removed, I have an appointment to see surgeon tomorrow for results and to find out what type of cancer it was, it’s all happened so quick I’m in shock

  • Hello Maj56

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been through surgery for lung cancer. It's understandable that you're feeling shocked by things.

How did your appointment with the surgeon go yesterday? I hope that they were able to give you some reassurance about your recovery to date and the next steps.

If there's anything you want to talk through with one of our nurses do feel free to post in our Ask the Nurses topic area and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any support they can.

Keep in touch Maj56 and let us know how you are.

    Best wishes,

  • I have been back to to get pathology report and it is good news I had two different types of cancer, the one in the top lobe was the invasive type but they got it early, and it has all been taken away, they don’t think I need chemotherapy but will do another pet scan next week to make sure nothing was missed, I will need radiotherapy. I just need to stay positive and get strong

  • Hi, I've just read this and really feel for you as you haven't had time to think. Its good that you have been treated so quickly. I know that it is a very painful thing to recover from. Very invasive and lots of nerve damage. I know this as my husband has recently had a lobectomy. There are different treatments for different types I suppose. My husband is not on chemo he is on something completely different as is mutation is quite rare. I hope your consultation went okay. I realise now that your post was two months ago. How are you?
