Why is smoking allowed.

Smoking, smokers n non smokers.
Peoples attitudes towards smokers must change.
They say it's YOUR CHOICE to smoke. They don't realise it's a highly addictive and unnecessary habit.
If we took the YOUR CHOICE attitude of other activities n didn't care about what happens to them how would they feel. Say someone was riding a bicycle and they came off and hurt themselves and someone came up to them and instead of helping just shrugged their shoulders and said "Oh well, YOUR CHOICE." Then walked away without helping them how would they feel. You could say the cyclist had an accident but it was THEIR CHOICE to cycle and pursue that activity. They knew the risks. Cyclists don't even pay an excessive tax for their activity. You could say the same about other activities that have risks.
Smoking is totally unnecessary and is there just to kill people for money.
More people die from smoking (which is legal) each year than illegal drug deaths.
On cigarette packaging it advertises "Tobacco smoke contains over 70 substances known to cause cancer." And I'm thinking REALLY, and why do they put all these poisons in, probably to keep you addicted and they get away with it.
Legalities are obviously bought off and swept under the carpet. Attempting suicide is supposed to be illegal yet nothing is said when someone has a cigarette knowingly taking in poison and killing themselves. Also giving someone a cigarette is knowingly giving them something that will poison them.
It's YOUR CHOICE not to care.
If people actually think about it then it’s barbaric that we have this choice.

  • Both tobacco and alcohol are so established within society, and the world over, they couldn't outright ban either. Both have been done for generations. Their only option is to do what they are currently looking to do as far as tobacco is concerned, make sure anyone under a certain age of a ban being enforced never reach the age where they can legally purchase tobacco.

If tobacco and alcohol were more recent introductions, they would probably never be legalised in this day and age. But yeah, they'd never get away with just outright banning people from using tobacco.

As for alcohol, it's amazing the amount of people who gloss over the fact that it has no positive impact on folks lives, healthwise, and if anything it can cause severe damage in next to no time, whereas smoking risks are chronic in nature. All those "red wine is good for you" claims are based on nothing other than research that the alcohol industry have helped finance. A bit like when tobacco companies used to finance research into smoking, that research claimed the health risks were overblown. Zero alcohol is the best measurement, but folk still believe all that garbage they have read or heard others parrot.

  • It beggers belief that the two things that are so bad for our bodies and health are still widely available ,smoking and drinking alcohol are complete health hazards ,I've seen it so many times causing illness mental health and death and yet here we are still allowing it ,its like ,well the Government says its ok so it must be ,I know people right now suffering because of these two things ,one just had a massive operation to rid him of cancer because he's smoked and drank excessively for years ,If I'd had cancer I would never ever touch these things again but many do ,I stopped drinking all alcohol 3 years ago I hate it ,its taken far too many lives .

  • Hi as someone who has never smoked and bar the very occasional bottle of cider, maybe 6 a year, i can understand the social benefit of going out and seeing family and friends and having a drink with a meal, but for the life of me why would any sane person choose to smoke, Why would you want to play Russian roulette with your life, Why does the government allow it, because it's a big tax earner for them and as most politicians number one concern is being re-elected and to ban smoking they would have to increase tax elsewhere "very unpopular", and be out of a job, which is far more important to them than the 55,000 people who die of smoking related cancers every year, which is 28% of all UK cancer deaths annually,I hane no idea the financial cost of that is, probably very similar to taxes on tobacco, I'm off for a drink, decaf tea for me cheers
