Raised calprotectin worried.

Hi all,

Just wanted some insight i have a raised fc level of 88 with ibs symptoms. Fit was negative despite having spotting of blood i have seen. Blood tests are fine.

History-

Colonscopy in 2014 showed possible crohns as ulcers found in ileum put on pentasa. I started to feel better however all mri and biopsys still did not give a crohns diognosis.

Repeat colonscopy in 2018 clear colonscopy ulcers had gone.and calprotectin was level 90. So was given a diognosis of ibs and discharged.

Lived life like normal always having ibs type symptoms now and then stools have never always been 100% some days are better then others.

Lately bowels seem more erratic due to anxiety and stress. And all tests have come back clear except slight raised calprotectin of 88. I am very scared and confused as to what is going on. Gp states levels are more or less the same as 5 years ago and colonscopy was clear. So im just confused as to what to do. I know my levels are not high compared to many on here. But just need to know what should be done. I feel as though i have just been misdiagnoised and now its too late.

I am so scared and if it is just ibs or something else

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Welcome to the forum Anonworried although I'm sorry to hear your calprotectin levels are raised.

I know this will be much easier said than done but if you can, do try and take some reassurance from the results you've had back as if anything was amiss it would have shown up in one of the tests that was carried out.

Having said this, if you really do feel something isn't quite right, then there's no harm in going back to your GP to discuss your concerns. If you have more than one GP working at your surgery, you could try getting a second opinion as well.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will be along soon to offer their thoughts and advice but you can also talk things through with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and figure out what to do next.

We're thinking of you Anonworried and hope you're able to get some peace of mind over this soon.

    Kind regards,
